For most of us, we heard the phrase meta-analysis reasonably early on in our academic career, probably in one of the first few lessons of our Introduction to Psychology course. Globally an estimated 180 million people, or roughly 3% of the world's population, are currently infected.1 The burden of disease is greatest in developing countries: the highest reported prevalences are in China (3.2%), Egypt (22%) and Pakistan (4.8%).2.
